UAE to Launch Fully Electric Sea Gliders Connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 25 Minutes
The UAE is preparing to introduce a new era of zero-emission transport with fully electric sea gliders designed to connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 25 to 30 minutes.
The project aims to transform coastal mobility by combining the efficiency of aviation with the flexibility of maritime transport — offering a fast, sustainable, and innovative travel alternative between key cities.
What Are Electric Sea Gliders?
The electric sea gliders are advanced “flying boats” that travel across the water before lifting a few meters above the sea surface using hydrofoil technology. This reduces drag and allows the vessel to move at high speed while consuming significantly less energy than traditional aircraft or high-speed ferries.
The project is being developed by Regent Craft in partnership with UAE strategic investors.
Planned Routes & Travel Time
The initial operational routes are expected to connect:
• Abu Dhabi City
• Al Dhafra Region
• Dubai (in later expansion phase)
Travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is estimated at just 25–30 minutes — significantly faster than road transport.
Technology & Models
Two key models are currently under development:
• 12-seat passenger model (Viceroy class)
• 100-seat passenger model (Monarch class)
Both use hydrofoils to lift above the water at speed, operating under maritime regulations rather than traditional aviation rules.
The vessels travel like boats when departing harbors and then transition into low-altitude glide mode over water.
Ticket Pricing
Estimated ticket prices are expected to range between $200–$250 per passenger, positioning the service as a premium but time-efficient transport option.
Sustainability & Net Zero Goals
The project aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy, reinforcing the country’s leadership in green infrastructure and smart mobility solutions.
Plans include establishing a local manufacturing facility in the UAE by 2029 through a joint venture with the UAE Strategic Development Fund, supporting both sustainability and economic diversification.
Why It Matters
• Reduces inter-city travel time dramatically
• Offers zero-emission transport
• Supports coastal smart mobility expansion
• Strengthens UAE’s innovation leadership
• Enhances tourism and business connectivity
With commercial operations targeted between 2026 and 2028, electric sea gliders could redefine regional transportation across the UAE’s coastline.
The future of mobility in the UAE is not just on land or in the sky — it’s skimming above the sea.
