Dubai Airport Introduces AI-Powered 3D Security Scanners – No More Removing Laptops or Liquids

Dubai International Airport has officially introduced a new generation of AI-powered 3D security scanners, marking a major shift in how passengers move through airport security.

Travelers will no longer need to remove laptops, electronics, or liquids from their bags during screening. The advanced system uses artificial intelligence and high-resolution 3D imaging technology to automatically detect potential threats inside luggage — without manual unpacking.

This upgrade is designed to significantly improve passenger convenience while maintaining the highest global safety standards.

What’s Changing?

• Passengers can keep electronics and liquids inside their bags
• No tray congestion or unpacking delays
• Faster and smoother security screening
• Reduced manual inspections

The AI system automatically analyzes bag contents. It determines in real time whether a passenger can proceed or if additional inspection is required. This minimizes unnecessary disruptions and enhances overall efficiency.

Deployment Progress

Currently, 66 AI scanners have already been installed across Dubai Airport terminals. More than 100 advanced units are expected to be fully rolled out by the end of the year, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart airport infrastructure.

Advanced 3D Threat Detection Technology

The system uses next-generation computed tomography (CT) technology combined with artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional X-ray machines, these scanners generate highly detailed 3D images, allowing security teams to rotate and analyze contents without opening bags.

This significantly reduces false alarms and eliminates the need for most manual bag checks.

Smarter, Non-Intrusive Security

The new scanners are designed to be non-intrusive and contactless, reducing physical interactions while maintaining security precision. AI determines risk levels instantly — improving passenger flow and minimizing wait times.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Seamless Travel

Dubai’s smart aviation strategy goes beyond security scanning. Future upgrades aim to introduce:

• Passport-free biometric processing
• Integrated smart travel reminders
• AI-driven passenger flow optimization
• Fully digital check-in experiences

The goal is simple: create a seamless journey from check-in to boarding.

With these innovations, Dubai Airport continues to set new global benchmarks in aviation security, combining safety, speed, and smart technology.
